Changes proposed in this Pull Request
- G Suite is rebranding to Google Workspace so we’ll need to update all the places G Suite is mentioned in translated strings – I’ll split the update into several separate PRs (this one being the first)
- There will be a transition period where people will see G Suite or Google Workspace depending on when their subscription was created so we’ll need to support both products
- We’re introducing the concept of
GoogleMailServiceFamily
as something different than the product name because in some places we don’t want to reference an actual product name but the current (active) product family. This might look confusing because when we first introduced G Suite we decided to not use the full product name. For reference:
- “G Suite” can reference both a product name and the product family. The actual product name should’ve been “G Suite Basic”. With the rename we hope to make that clearer.
- “G Suite Business” is the product name and “G Suite” is the product family
- “Google Workspace Business Starter” is the product name and “Google Workspace” is the product family
- All updated strings are using a feature flag to determine what product family to show so we can eventually switch from “G Suite” to “Google Workspace” once we’re ready with all strings. The feature flag is
google-workspace-product-rename
The updated strings are in the following places:
The inline help link – open the help popup and search for google or upgrade and verify that there is “Cancel Google Workspace” link (it’ll be “Cancel G Suite” if you’re not testing in development environment)
Go to some domain “Name servers and DNS” section and check the email service set up section
In the domain list header check the email tooltip content
One of the error messages for failed API calls to fetch the G Sute / Google Workspace information
